STEP Readmission

Successful Transitions through Educational Planning

If you left the College voluntarily or involuntarily* and your cumulative GPA was less than 2.0, you will have to apply for readmission through the Office of Admissions as a transfer/readmit student.

If readmitted, you must participate in the STEP Program, which includes a one-day workshop designed to help you succeed as you return to the College. The STEP Workshop also includes mandatory advising with staff from the Academic Advising & Planning Center. STEP students are required to sign a readmission contract that outlines the minimum GPA plus other requirements you must meet in order to remain at the College. These conditions are designed to ensure that you make forward progress towards your degree so that you can bring your cumulative GPA into good standing and ultimately graduate.

The one-day required STEP workshop for fall 2013-STEP-readmitted students will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2013. Online registration for the STEP workshop for fall 2013 readmitted students will open on May 1, 2013. Students must clear all holds on their account prior to August 1, 2013 in order to attend the STEP work shop and register for fall 2013 classes. Click here for more information about registering for the STEP workshop.

*If you previously attended the College as a provisional student, but did not meet the conditions of the program, you are required to complete a minimum of 30 credit hours at another institution before applying for readmission through the STEP Program.

STEP Applications for fall 2013 readmission will not be accepted after the deadline of May 1, 2013.

STEP Academic Success Plans

As part of the application for readmission process, candidates are provided an opportunity to submit an Academic Success Plan. This Academic Success Plan will allow you to provide information that will be considered when your application is reviewed. Academic Success Plans are optional but strongly encouraged. Applications submitted without Academic Success Plans will receive equal consideration for readmission.

Click here to download a Microsoft Word version of the Academic Success Plan.

Completed plans should be submitted electronically to undergrad@cofc.edu.

Completed Academic Success Plans are due to Undergraduate Academic Services NO LATER than May 15, 2013 in order to be considered as part of the readmission decision. Applications with completed Academic Success Plans will be reviewed as received and readmission decisions will be expedited.

Applications without completed Academic Success Plans will be held until May 15, 2013 unless the student notifies Undergraduate Academic Services that he/she does not intend to submit an academic success plan for consideration. Academic Success Plans submitted without a STEP application (due May 1, 2013 to the Office of Admissions) will not be considered.
